The Lookout Property covers about 6½ acres (2.5 ha) and the house and apartment is set in about 1 acre of landscaped gardens with spectacular views across Backstairs Passage to the Fleurieu Peninsula.

There are several interconnected gardens with rose arbours

There are several interconnected gardens with rose arbours, ponds and streams, a bonsai garden, secluded walkways, an orchard and veggie patch, all waiting to be explored.

The gardens are largely a mixture of cool temperate plants and include Australian natives interspersed with shrubs, perennials and warm temperate and Mediterranean plantings. English roses feature in several areas of the garden.

The remainder of the property is planted with many native species and also has two dams, one given over to water lilies and the other used as the water storage for the summer watering of the garden.

A large shade house protects more delicate plantings including palms, ferns, bromeliads and begonias. There is also a colony of white fantail doves in the garden.

Our guests are encouraged to explore the garden and the rest of the property. It is possible for the energetic to walk out across Bald Hill in front of the property and climb down to Cuttlefish bay, a small but delightful sandy beach.
